Hey guys!

Entah kenapa gue tiba2 kangen dengan masa-masa waktu gue masih LIA. HI-4 was really though! Belajar semua tenses, grammar, presentation and essay! Yeah, many students said that writing essay is really difficult. Gue cukup setuju dengan pendapat ini. Soalnya, writing essay itu buanyak banget aturannya. Kalimatnya lah, koherensinya lah, grammar, tenses and so on.

Teringat saat-saat perjuangan titik darah penghabisan waktu ngerjain writing testnya LIA. Duh waktunya dikit banget! Bahkan banyak kawan2 yang belom selesai nulis concluding paragraph saat sang pengawas meneriakkan " 5 more minutes!" Gosh! Gue langsung buru2 nulis tanpa pikir panjang, yang pentiing nyambung.

Jeng-jeng! Waktu pengumuman kelulusan pun tiba. Kita harus pergii ke lantai 4 untuk "ngambil sendiri" hasil ujiannya. Gue bareng 2 kawan pun pergi ke lantai 4. "Deg.. deg.." Gue yang paling was-was dan overact waktu itu. Sumpah lebay banget gue sampe hampir nangis takut gak lulus. Untungnya, petugas mengeluarkan 2 kertas kuning dan satu kertas biru. Ternyata kertas biru itu artinya passed! Dan di kertas itu ada nama gue. Pertama-tama gue speechless, setelah temen gue menyadarkan gue kalo itu reality, gue langsung seneng lompat kegirangan. Gak tau diri banget yang gue? Saat kedua sahabat gue masang muka "miris" gue malah lompat2 kegirangan. Haha.. Maaf ya kawan saat itu saya benar2 perlu obat bius

Taking Extra Lessons

Nowadays, there are so many people who open and join courses. These courses spread and grow fast. You can see that this phenomenon happens in town or even village. Many course institutes offer their service, not only in language, but also sports, school lessons, dance and many others to people. The participants, not only kids but also adults, can join those courses. Usually, course institutes offer many classes and divide them depending on the participants. Most of the participants are usually kids or students. It happens because students still have many to learn. Students are students, they also go to school to get knowledge. Why do they take courses if they already study in school?

Student’s main job is to study at school, not in courses. It’s not an obligation for them. Many students complained that they feel tired to go to school and courses. Many students also feel happy and enthusiastic to take extra lessons, especially about their hobbies. Have you ever asked someone or yourself “Why do I take extra lessons?” An aphorism said “Striving for knowledge up to China”. It means you have to find as much as knowldege as you can even to other countries or nations. Taking extra lessons outside school is supposed to be done by students in order to improve experience for the future because of the use of those lessons in school, emergence of personal character and exploration of skills and knowledge.

First, taking extra lessons outside school is really useful to help students in their school lessons. Extra lessons, like music course, mathematic, or extra lessons from private teacher can improve students’ brain ability that help them to increase their memory of their school lessons. Stanford University research has found for the first time that musical training improves how the brain processes the spoken word and mathematical ability. A finding that researchers say could lead to improving the language and mathematical ability of children. Especially in classical music, the beat in most of classic music has similarity with our heartbeat. It also fastens neurons in our brain to think faster in mathematic.

Some students don’t understand what their teacher’s explanation in school. In several courses, they provide teachers who have ability to teach better than school’s teachers. In regular school, usually in one class it consists of 40 students. Meanwhile in courses, they provide one class for less than 20 or 10 students or even a private teacher, depending on the costs. They have better facilities and teachers who can help to digest lessons easily. So, It will be easier for the students to understand the lessons to improve their score in school.

Second, students can explore their skills and knowledge in courses that they have taken. They will get several skills that they don’t get in school. The skills that they get depends on what kind of courses that they take. For example, when students take dance course, they will get dance skill. They can find their true talents from the skills that they get. If the students seriously deepen their talents, they will get something to do about their future. The more they explore their skills, the more talents that they can show. Most of regular schools don’t provide this activity in their curriculum. It won’t let students to express their true talents.

Especially for children, they need to know much knowledge. They still have better time to study and gain knowledge than adults do. According to 2005 survey conducted by the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), daily average work hours for American workers amounted 8 hours on weekdays and 6 hours on weekends. After all, students have only 6 hours to study at school on weekdays and 3 to 4 hours to study at courses. They have more time and they are supposed to use it to learn more knowledge.

Third, taking extra lessons emerge student’s true character. Extra lessons can build up positive character to students. Have you ever heard about character education? Then, if not how about ESQ? Most people have ever heard or even tried it before. They hope they can change their behavior and know some moral values. ESQ is a training program whose main aim is a balance in emotional and spiritual quotient. It will improve student’s character to be a good person. Not only in ESQ but also almost all courses bring positive character. Sports, music, language and manner lesson also bring positive character. It also depends on the students will to seriously learn the extra lessons. If they feel in pressure when taking extra lessons, those extra lessons won’t build a positive character. It might be better to fill the time with a good activity than do nothing.

Students can find out their true selves there. Sometimes, students can’t express their true character in school. There’s no enough facilities that supports them. For example, a student has a cheerful and energetic character in sport, but there’s no enough sport facility that support the student. It will make him/her being forced to show up his/her character. It will be different if the student joins a sport club that he/she likes to do, he/she can show up the true character inside herself/himself.

Students also can get more friends in courses that can help students to emerge their personal character. In courses, especially about their hobbies, students can find more friends that have the same hobbies as them. It will make them easier to socialize with each other, starting from the one who has the same hobbies. They will learn how to make new friends and socialize, not only with the one who has the same hobbies, but also with their school friends and others. It will build a more sociable character to the students.

All of those reasons will improve student’s experience for the future. We can see from this globalization era, skills and education are really important. If students start to increase their capability in terms of skills and education at the early age, they will be able to compete for their future in the globalization era. They will learn some additional skills and knowledge that will be useful for them. They will be able to have independent living, because they can handle their lives with all of those skills, knowledge and experience that they’ve got from courses. For example, now you are taking an English course. Then when you’re already become an adult and you have to work with foreign investor, you’ll be able to face and communicate with them and easily get promotion from the foreigners.

Not only from skills and education but also moral value and experience that you’ve got in courses will help you in the future. In courses, indirectly, you learn how to manage your time, facing troubles and how to solve them. You know how to make new friends that will be useful to communicate with your business partner in the future. Sometimes, in courses you experience to do a presentation or speak in front of many people. It will build up your bravery and leading character. You might lead your employees or companies in the future, right? Or at least you have to lead your own self to your own path.

So, taking extra lessons is so beneficial to you right? For those who seriously doing extra lessons, they can explore much knowledge and skills, get easier to understand school lessons and emerge their personal character. All of those reasons will lead them to the improvement of experience for their future. Isn’t it interesting? Take some extra lessons that you are interested in now, and do your best there.
